Dear Friend,
Thank you for adding your name to the thousands of pastors, Christians, and evangelical leaders from across the country who have signed the WeGetIt.org declaration! If a million Christians sign this statement, we can send an important message to our leaders that Biblical principles and factual evidence, not media hype about things like global warming, should guide our care of the environment and the poor.
Every week, the WeGetIt.org Wednesday Bulletin provides updates on the stewardship-related news of our day, and offers some practical ways to think Biblically about these issues. As you read, please be thinking of the people you know who would benefit from this information. Then, forward this message to your friends and encourage them to sign the declaration.
Cross-Examining the Champions of Global Warming Alarm
For nearly two decades the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has presented itself as the world's leading authority on the science of global warming. But as Proverbs 18:17 says, "The first to plead his case seems right, until another comes and examines him." Under careful examination, it turns out that the IPCC is so hopelessly biased that its conclusions in favor of manmade, catastrophic global warming were predetermined by the selection of its lead authors.
By carefully analyzing the IPCC’s review process, researcher John McLean has been able to document this systemic bias against any criticism of catastrophic, human-induced global warming:
The hypothesis of damaging, man-made warming is a long way from being proven – and, given the recent trend in the peer-reviewed literature, is well on the way to being disproven. Recent cooling of the planet further suggests that man-made warming is at best too weak to be detected in the “noise” of natural internal variability.
Governments have naively and unwisely accepted the claims of a human influence on global temperatures made by a close-knit clique of a few dozen scientists, many of them climate modelers, as if such claims were representative of the opinion of the wider scientific community. On the evidence presented here, the IPCC’s selection of its chapter authors appears so prejudiced towards a predetermined outcome that it renders its scientific assessment of the climate suspect and its conclusions inappropriate for policy making. Global Warming? Not Lately!
Although Al Gore, the mainstream media, UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and environmental advocacy groups aren't saying much about it, Earth has been cooling significantly through the last six years. Take a look at this graph:

More inconvenient truths for Al Gore
Last Thursday, former Vice President Al Gore called on America to end its dependence on carbon-based fuels for electrical generation in just ten years. Just for context, such fuel sources currently supply 70% of our electrical energy; nuclear power supplies another 19%. As reporter Jack Kelly points out, “The ‘green’ sources Mr. Gore prefers—solar, wind, geothermal—combined produced only 2.3 percent of our electricity.” He wryly adds, “Mr. Gore didn't mention that he's invested heavily in companies which produce ‘green’ energy.”
Much like An Inconvenient Truth (which contained so many inaccuracies that a court-ordered warning must accompany its use in British schools), the speech was littered with facts taken out of context. Andrew Revkin, New York Times environment reporter, notes several inaccuracies and exaggerations in the speech. And he cautions that downplaying the costs of climate change policy proposals in order to make them more palatable to the public is counter-productive:
Many scientists and engineers have looked to the Apollo program as a metaphor, but stressed that the energy transformation is a far greater challenge. [As] one solar expert told me…, “It’s not like NASA sending a man to the moon. It’s like finding a new way to send a man to the moon when Southwest Airlines is already flying there every hour handing out peanuts.”(Emphasis added)
The debate over the causes and consequences of climate change, and what we ought to do about it, is too often driven by hype. Christian prudence requires careful thinking and weighing of options before making decisions, especially when those decisions will have a direct impact on the lives and livelihood of our poorest neighbors, here and abroad.
Thanks for reading! Word of mouth is the most effective way to get the truth out. Help us reach one million signers by forwarding this email to your friends, and encouraging them to sign the WeGetIt.org declaration. Together, we can take a stand for truth and for the poor.
Gratefully,
