Dear Friend,
Have you ever been at a loss when someone claims that all scientists agree that global warming is real, caused by humans, and likely to be catastrophic? This week we inaugurate a new periodic feature, "Cooler Heads," in which we'll be introducing you to some of the experts who question key aspects of climate change alarmism. We welcome your feedback!
As you read this week's WeGetIt.org Wednesday Bulletin, please be thinking of friends who would benefit from it, and then forward it to them. Thanks for your support!
Some experts are more equal than others

Climate change crusaders routinely dismiss their critics as unqualified, but global warming believers who lack scientific expertise seem to get a pass. (Al Gore, anyone?) So the irony seemed a little thick last week when William Schlesinger, a biogeochemist, told world-class climatologist John Christy that his critique of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was “inappropriate.”
Watching the video (which includes helpful graphs and illustrations) is instructive. Christy, a former IPCC lead author and a lead researcher with the NASA remote global temperature sensing satellite system, kept his cool. He argued that the data doesn’t support Schlesinger’s arguments, and pointed out that the UN process is politicized. Schlesinger urged action to combat manmade, catastrophic global warming. Christy countered that climate change is largely natural, not manmade, and that efforts to combat it will harm the world's poor by driving up energy prices and diverting resources from other, more helpful projects.
So, why do defenders of global warming alarmism protest that critics who lack credentials in climatology or meteorology are unqualified, but fail to make the same protest when proponents (like Schlesinger) lack them? And why don't they acknowledge critics' qualifications when, like Christy, they are world-class climatologists?
“If you have the facts," lawyers joke, "argue the facts. If you don't have the facts, argue the law. If you don't have the law, pound on the table.” Or just label your opponent’s argument inappropriate.

Cooler Heads
Thousands of experts question key aspects of catastrophic, human-induced global warming. Here's just one:

John Christy, Ph.D. |
Formerly a UN IPCC lead author and now Alabama's State Climatologist, John Christy is currently the Distinguished Professor of Atmospheric Science and the Director of the Earth System Science Center at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, where he helps oversee the NASA satellite remote sensing program, the world's only truly comprehensive system for sensing atmospheric conditions (including temperature). Christy, who met his wife on an African mission field, shared the Nobel Prize
with former Vice President Al Gore. He has an outstanding presentation, Searching for Climate Change. |

Hundreds of experts gather to question the "consensus"
In two and a half weeks (March 8-10), hundreds of scientists, economists, and other specialists will gather in New York City at the second International Conference on Climate Change to present lectures in opposition to belief in manmade, catastrophic global warming. They believe global warming is being used to scare people into embracing draconian government policies that will impoverish us and severely restrict freedom.
Among the featured speakers at this year's conference will be
- Czech President and economist Vaclav Klaus, author of Blue Planet in Green Shackles
- Roy Spencer, principal research scientist at the University of Alabama, Huntsville, team leader (with John Christy) on NASA's Aqua satellite, and author of Climate Confusion
- Stephen McIntyre, primary author of Climate Audit (a blog devoted to the analysis and discussion of climate data), who debunked the famed "Hockey Stick" graph (heavily relied on by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and other alarmists, purporting to show that recent warming was unprecedented in the last 1,000 years)
- Richard Lindzen, professor of meteorology and atmospheric physics, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a lead author and critic of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change
Complete proceedings of last year’s conference, including audio, video, PowerPoint presentations, and PDFs of lectures and panel discussions, are available online.
This year's conference is open to the public.

A bailout for India?
Former French Prime Minister Jacques Chirac said the Kyoto Protocol was "the first component of an authentic global governance."
Climate Wire, a subscription-only webzine focusing on the business and politics of global warming, reports a statement submitted by the Indian government to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (the parent of Kyoto) that embraces Chirac's vision.
"The providers of finance [for climate policies] cannot be discretionary 'donors,' but must be legally obligated 'assessees,'" India insisted in its statement.
Christopher Horner, whose book Red Hot Lies details how global warming alarmists use threats, fraud, and deception to keep people misinformed, points out
that India's demand confirms warnings that globalist politicians use global warming fears to promote international taxation and forced transfers of wealth from the developed to the developing world.
The debate over global warming is about much more than just the science.
Now, please forward this message to your pastor, other Christian leaders, and friends and urge them to sign the WeGetIt.org Declaration, too!
The more people sign, the stronger the message our leaders will hear that Biblical principles and factual evidence, not media hype about speculative fears like global warming, should guide our care for the environment and the poor.
Gratefully,
